Our History
After finishing the orthodontic residency program at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 1959, Dr. Charles L. Chambliss came to Mobile to establish a practice. His first office was on Monterey Street just off of Government Street. He stayed there until about 1965, when he built the office on Beltline Highway. The name of the practice was Dr Charles L. Chambliss, D.M.D.
In 1959, at the same time that he started his practice in Mobile, Dr. Chambliss began a satellite practice in Brewton, Alabama.
Dr. J. Russell Goodloe, Jr. finished dental school in 1964. In 1970 he began to practice with Dr. Chambliss. The name of the practice then became Drs. Chambliss and Goodloe, DMD, PC. Also, in 1970, Dr. Goodloe began a satellite practice in Jackson, Alabama.
Dr. Chambliss and Dr. Goodloe practiced together from 1970 until 1991, at which time Dr. Salter joined the practice. Dr. Chambliss retired two years later. The name of the practice then became Drs. Goodloe and Salter DMD, PC.
In October 1997, the practice moved from Beltline Highway to its present location at 1605 Hillcrest Road. Dr. Pickett joined the practice in 2000, and the practice was renamed Hillcrest Orthodontics, PC. Dr. Goodloe retired in 2008. Dr. Pickett left Hillcrest Orthodontics in 2008 to establish his own practice.
Dr. Salter continues a satellite practice in Brewton.
Over the years, the team at Hillcrest Orthodontics has provided and continues to provide excellent orthodontic treatment for many, many patients. Many of these patients have become good friends and some are now bringing their children to be treated. Drs. Chambliss, Goodloe, Salter and Pickett are very proud of the impact they have made on the lives of so many people, children and adults, in the Mobile, Brewton and Jackson areas.
