Early Treatment

Acting to prevent future issues and set your child up for success.

If you have a young child, we recommend an initial orthodontic consultation at the age of 7. While each child’s development is different, most adult molars start to emerge around the age of six. These molars, along with other developmental markers, help us understand the basic alignment of teeth.

Children will always benefit from early intervention. If an issue is found, we typically monitor your child’s growth pattern before proceeding with treatment.

Dental problems that require early intervention by an orthodontist:

  • Severe crossbite or underbite
  • Protruding teeth
  • Severe crowding
  • Thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, or mouth breathing

Early intervention gives the best results for your child, using the most efficient treatments that also prevent future problems. Even if your child needs braces in the future, the process will most likely be much shorter. By waiting too long, orthodontic treatment becomes more complicated and costly, and may even require surgery.

‘‘Very satisfied with the whole staff and process from start to finish! Dr. Salter goes above and beyond to be personable with her patients and keeps you informed. She even reached out to me personally the evening after I got my braces on to see how I was doing.’’

Braces vs. Aligners

Explore which is the best option for you!

Braces

Braces are attached onto the teeth using metal and wires, which gradually shift teeth to their new position. They can only be removed by the orthodontist so it’s easier to stay on schedule, plus we can add fun colors, too.

Aligners

Aligners utilize custom-fit plastic trays that guide your teeth to a straighter smile. They’re more discreet and can be taken out for eating and hygiene. You easily switch them out according to your treatment plan.
